SO I created this set above to keep myself occupied until my honey returns and we go on our first date to the movies but ironically, right after I posted it, I got up and dressed to go to the movies alone. Boo-thang wants to see Django Unchained; so I decided to go and see my girlie movie alone.

And without really thinking about it (as I decided at 4:00 to go to the 4:30 show and just threw on something quickly) what I wore was pretty similar to what I assembled in this set although I currently lack a proper camera or photographer to best capture my fit. Had to do best with what I had to work with, so here goes.

In place of a comfy henly, I wore a comfy thermal from Forever 21 topped with an Aztec print cardigan by BCBG Max Azria (purchased for the low-low at Ross).

 

Because my hair is currently in cornrows, I didn't rock the high bun look featured in the set and instead topped me head with a winter beanie and called it a day. In place of biker boots (which I've yet to own), I rocked my brown "mud stompers" (as I call them) that I bought many years ago from Pull & Bear. Couldn't really get a good picture of them, though:

This photo was taken after the movies...hence the slight wardrobe malfunction!

The earcuff set was replaced with a pair of print earrings I found at a local thrift store and as you can see, I am still working on that dark lip:

 Here is a photo of the whole look...sigh, I can't WAIT to get a better camera...can't...wait.

So that's it...thought I looked pretty cute considering I had 15 minutes to pull something together. My darling will be back tomorrow so we will be going to Raleigh in the next couple of days and as I NEVER get a chance to dress up for him, I am planning on going all out. I have some black mountain boots from Zara that are waiting patiently to get some action, so I will be playing dress-up over the next couple of days to see which look will make the date cut...Polyvore set coming soon!

Fashion Week Street Style Inspired

Style set contest entry...rules were to create a set inspired by the featured fashion looks provided. This look in particular caught my eye. It's very casual and effortless yet very stylish!

After I created the set, I browsed through a few other contest entries and came across another girl who used this look in her set. She was able to find other photos of this woman as well and I learned that her name is Leandra Medine:

A bit more probing (via The Coveteur) led me to the new knowledge that she is an author, and more popularly she is the creator of the blog, "The Man Repeller". I then learned of this interesting term "man repelling" which is defined as such:  

"Manrepelling: outfitting oneself in a sartorially offensive way that will result in repelling members of the opposite sex. Such garments include but are not limited to harem pants, boyfriend jeans, overalls, shoulder pads, full length jumpsuits, jewelry that resembles violent weaponry and clogs.” 

Well, thanks for that, Coveteur!

Irony, oh irony. When I saw this shirt at American Apparel I laughed and rolled my eyes and did this weird thing with my tongue that tends to signal confusion before I yanked it off its hanger and took it toward the register. Part of me felt like a drug smuggler, but most of me recognized the silliness of this shirt–obviously, we don’t all post the same stuff–even though I did hope I’d find several variations of these photos that were taken on Tuesday to write a story called “I’m So Irreverent, What’s Up?” Black and white graphics look great with anything. A double cheers if the graphics in question muse funny or at very least, controversial things.

What I also found super cool is that it wasn't after I saw the other photos of Leandra that I noticed that the red bracelet on her arm is in the shape of lips...I too created the set with a red bracelet in the shape of lips. Aaaaah, stylish minds think alike!

Sigh. I can't wait to have a reason (and the finances) to dress awesome and just be fabulous for the fun of it. One day, one day! Until then, I will keep being inspired by cool chicks like Leandra!

Fashion Journal Entry #10: "Paisley Princess" by kristenalyce

In lieu of my posting actual outfit posts, I am turning to Polyvore where I can fantasize about things I would LIKE to wear one day! This set was inspired by the last fashion look I posted back in July: the pretty $3.00 paisley dress I bought from Hall's Thrift and Jewelry. Because Fall is steadily approaching, I decided to add an Autumn and Winter variation of this look, keeping with the theme of the high neckline on the dress and peep-toe stilettos in pop colors. Also, because I am the queen of layering, I offered options on ways to top these looks to make them more casual and funky!
